The present invention relates to the isolation and characterization of a maize gene, RAMOSA3 (RA3), responsible for the development of meristems and the development of the inflorescence comprising branching. The gene, the gene product and regulatory zones can be used to act on branching, meristem growth, development and disposition of the inflorescence, and finally to improve the yield of plants. The invention relates to the genetic and protein product and its use for the temporal and spatial expression in transgenic plants, to modify the plant morphology and to act on the yield in plants. The invention also relates to the genetic and protein product of SISTER OF RAMOSA3 (SRA). |
