abstract Disclosed is a flame-retardant lubricant composition for cold working which contains no chlorine compound and exhibits good lubricity and welding resistance. Also disclosed is a cold working method using such a lubricant composition. Specifically disclosed is a lubricant composition for cold working which contains, in a lubricant base oil, at least one carbonate selected from alkali metal carbonates and alkaline earth metal carbonates, and at least one hydroxide selected from alkali metal hydroxides and alkaline earth metal hydroxides. This lubricant composition contains no chlorine compound. The carbonate content in the composition is not less than 10% by mass and less than 100% by mass, and the hydroxide content is more than 0 part by mass and not more than 5 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of the carbonate.
