abstract A multi-layered drug delivery system contains at least one gum layer and at least one rapidly dissolving tablet layer. The tablet layer contains a therapeutically effective amount of a medicament which is susceptible to rupture upon chewing, thereby causing the release of the drug. The invention is especially useful as a delivery system for oral hygienic agents, pharmaceuticals, and nutritive and dietary supplements. Useful delivery systems include those for nicotine, and cough, cold, allergy and/or sinus medicaments.
