abstract A method for the quantitative determination of propionic acid which comprises the step (1) of making a propionyl-CoA transferase act on propionic acid contained in a sample in the presence of acetyl-CoA, the step (2) of making an acyl-CoA oxidase on the propionyl-CoA formed by the action of the propionyl-CoA transferase, and the step (3) of determining the quantity of hydrogen peroxide formed by the action of the acyl-CoA oxidase or that of oxygen consumed by the action of the acyl-CoA oxidase. This method enables easy quantitative determination of propionic acid with high sensitivity.
