This invention provides a honeycomb structure that comprises a catalyst support layer deposited so that the initial pressure loss does not increase and is less likely to cause an increase in pressure loss even at the time of particulate collection, can realize good contact with exhaust gas or the like and can exhibit satisfactory catalytic function. In the honeycomb structure, a plurality of porous ceramic members, in which any one end of a plurality of longitudinally penetrated cells partitioned with wall parts is sealed, are bonded to each other through an adhesive layer. A catalyst support layer is adhered to the wall part. Pores formed in the porous ceramic member comprise large pores having a relatively large pore diameter and small pores having a relatively small pore diameter. The honeycomb structure is characterized by satisfying formulae (1) and (2): 6X1 + 80.5 ≤ Y1 ≤ 6X1 + 230.5 (1) -6X1 + 330 ≤ Y1 ≤ -6X1 + 474 (2) wherein X1 represents the thickness of the catalyst support layer, μm; Y1 represents a value obtained by multiplying the ratio of the average pore diameter of large pores to the average pore diameter of small pores (average pore diameter of large pores/average pore diameter of small pores) by the porosity (%) of the porous ceramic member. |
