abstract A microlens comprising a substrate, and a lens formed on the substrate wherein the microlens is arranged in the opening on the substrate, which opening is formed by coating the substrate surface with a first monomolecular film. The first monomolecular film has a critical surface energy of 22 mN/m or less, while having less affinity to the lens material than to the region in the opening. The first monomolecular film is bonded to the substrate surface by covalent bonding.
