abstract A method and device for illuminating a multiwell plate, collecting light from a target area with wells of the multiwell plate, transmitting this light to an area array detector, detecting discrete targets within wells of the plate and stitching together images of the well plate. This device and method may include the detection of microarray and non-ordered cells within wells. The system and method may include elements for the homogenization of light, the shaping of illumination light to illuminate a selected area of the array, off axis illumination and spatial modulation of the illumination light.
