abstract Disclosed is an additive for lubricants having oxidation stability, thermal stability, NOx resistance and excellent functions for serving as an extreme-pressure additive or wear-resisting agent. Also disclosed is a lubricant composition containing such an additive. Specifically disclosed are an additive for lubricants which is composed of a phosphate derivative represented by the general formula (I) below and a lubricant composition containing such an additive. In the formula below, Y represents S (sulfur) or O (oxygen); R1 represents a monovalent organic group having 4-24 carbon atoms; R2 represents a divalent organic group having 1-6 carbon atoms; and n represents an integer of 1-3.
