A polytrimethylene terephthalate which is reduced in cyclic dimer content and is less apt to generate cyclic dimmers during melt molding. The polytrimethylene terephthalate (A) consists mainly of trimethylene terephthalate units, has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-1.6 dL/g, and contains 0.01-0.5 wt.% compound represented by the following formula (I) or (II): (wherein R1, R2, and R3 are the same or different and each is a C1-10 hydrocarbon group; n is an integer of 1-5; and M is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, provided that when M is an alkali metal, then m is 1 and when M is an alkaline earth metal, then m is 2) (wherein R4 and R5 are the same or different and each is hydrogen or a C1-10 hydrocarbon group). Also provided is a fiber formed from the polytrimethylene terephthalate. |
