abstract A system for the detection of a variety of Listeria species in a test sample is provided. The system comprises polynucleotide primers and probes for the amplification and detection of a portion of a Listeria ssrA gene. The primers and probes can be used in real time diagnostic assays for rapid detection of Listeria in a variety of situations. Kits comprising the primers and probes are also provided.
