abstract The invention provides a coating fluid which is extremely stably applicable to various fields and permits stable ejection by an ejector and control of film thickness scattering either in one film or among films; a process for the formation of films with the same; processes for the production of functional devices; and functional devices. The invention relates to a coating fluid containing a mixed solvent and a functional material wherein the mixed solvent comprises the first solvent consisting of a compound having two or more aromatic rings and symmetric structure, e.g., diphenyl sulfide, diphenylmethane, or diphenyl ether and another solvent consisting of a compound having an aromatic ring, e.g., xylene, and the content of the latter solvent in the mixed solvent is 90% or below.
