titleOfInvention Method for producing an iron sucrose complex
abstract The invention relates to a method for producing an iron sucrose complex by (a) mixing, in an aqueous solution and at low temperature, an iron salt with sucrose and an inorganic base, simultaneously or in a random order, so that the reaction mixture has an acid value (pH) ranging from 3<pH<12, and maintaining the reaction mixture at this acid value until the iron salt is completely converted to iron oxyhydroxide; whereby, when alkali hydroxide is used, sucrose has to be present at the start of the reaction or has to be added together with the alkali hydroxide to the reaction mixture; (b) increasing the acid value of the reaction mixture to a value ranging from 10<pH<12 and heating the reaction mixture until the desired iron sucrose complex has completely formed; and precipitating the formed iron sucrose complex by mixing it with a suitable water-miscible solvent, whereby the iron sucrose complex is purified by the present anions and by a possible excess base prior to or after precipitation. The invention also relates to the iron sucrose complex so produced, to the use thereof for producing drugs and to drugs containing the iron sucrose complex.
