The present invention is directed to a transgenic plant comprising a Carotenoid Biosynthesis Inhibitor Resistant Protein (CBIRP) coding nucleic acid, wherein expression of the CBIRP coding nucleic acid in the plant results in increased resistance to a Carotenoid Biosynthesis Inhibitor (CBI) compound as compared to a wild type variety of the plant. Also provided are methods of controlling weeds in the vicinity of these plants. The present invention also provides agricultural products, including seeds, produced by the transgenic plants. Also provided are isolated CBIRPs, isolated CBIRP coding nucleic acids, and vectors and host cells containing the CBIRP coding nucleic acids. |
