abstract | A process by which polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) excellent in color tone, transparency, and quality stability and reduced in foreign matter content is produced while preventing the loss of raw materials. The process for producing PBT comprises using a one-stage or multiple-stage esterification reactor to continuously esterify terephthalic acid with 1,4-butanediol in the presence of a titanium compound catalyst and successively conducting polycondensation, wherein the esterification of terephthalic acid with 1,4-butandiol is conducted in the presence of the titanium compound catalyst used in a specific concentration at a specific pressure in a specific molar ratio between the raw materials. |
