abstract The invention relates to a method for production of a polycondensate, which may be obtained by reaction of at least one monomer (A) of general formula R<1>(X)m where R<1> is selected from linear or branched alkylene, alkenylene, alkinylene, arylene, polyether and alkylarylene groups, X is a functional group which may be the same or different, selected from hydroxyl, -0<->, amino, carboxyl, carboxylate and mercapto groups and m is a whole number >= (greater than or equal to) 2 with a monomer (B) of general formula R<2>(Y)z, where R<2 >is selected from alkylene, alkenylene, akinylene, aryl, alkylaryl and dialkyl carbonate groups, Y is a group which can react with the functional group X of monomer (A) by means of a condensation reaction and z is a whole number >= (greater than or equal to) 2, or with a monomer (B) of general formula R<2'>-O-C(O)-O-R<2' >, where R<2' >and R<2'' >can be the same or different and are selected from alkyl, alkenyl, alkinyl, aryl and alkylaryl groups, by reaction using a catalyst. The invention further relates to said catalyst.
