Optical film and image display |
abstract |
An optical film comprises a scattering-dichroism absorption composite polarizer and a phase difference layer. The scattering-dichroism absorption composite polarizer is composed of a film having a structure where microregions are dispersed in a matrix formed of a translucent resin containing an iodine-based light absorber. The phase-difference layer has a thickness of 10 µm or less and exhibits a refractive index anisotropy expressed by nx≅ny>nz where nz is the refractive index along the Z-axis which is the direction of the thickness, nx is the refractive index along the X-axis which is the direction of the maximum refractive index in the plane perpendicular to the Z-axis, and ny is the refractive index along the Y-axis perpendicular to the Z- and X-axis. Such an optical film has a high contrast over a wide angle of view, a high transmittance, and a high polarization degree, and can suppress variation of transmittance of black display. |
