abstract A method of measuring microbial proliferation and/or activity, characterized in that a microbe is incubated together with oxidized quinone in a culture solution, and that any product is reacted with a chemiluminescence reagent, followed by quantitative determination. This reaction is carried out in the presence of ions of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, manganese, nickel and cobalt. There is provided a luminescence measuring reagent kit for microbe detection, including oxidized quinone, a chemiluminescence reagent and at least one compound being a supply source of ions of a metal selected from the group consisting of molybdenum, manganese, nickel and cobalt. There is further provided a luminescence measuring system for microbe detection, including this kit and a device for concentrating a microbe solution. The provided method of microbe detection and luminescence measuring reagent kit and system realize a high detection limit for microbes, are suitable for speedy measuring of a multiplicity of test subjects and permit measuring over a wide range of pH.
