Disclosed is a ceramic porous body containing at least Si as a chemical component which is formed by a process wherein a body paste is prepared by adding a porous silica powder or a powder of a porous silica-containing compound in a molding material, the resulting ceramic body paste is molded into a predetermined shape, and then the thus-molded product is fired. By using a porous silica powder or a powder of a porous silica-containing compound as the pore-forming agent during production, the ceramic porous body does not generate a carbon dioxide gas or a harmful gas during firing and the firing time is shorter than would be the case where a conventional resin powder or carbon powder were used as the pore-forming agent. Moreover, there hardly occur changes in pore-forming characteristics during molding and deformation of the molded body. |
