Liquid crystal material for optical device and optical modulation device |
abstract |
A liquid crystal material for optical device that is capable of low-voltage driving, exhibiting high phase contrast and that can exhibit a blue phase over a temperature range capable of withstanding practical use; and a liquid crystal material for optical device that exhibits high transmittance of light in use and can realize long-term stable operation. There is provided a liquid crystal material for optical device, comprising a liquid crystal/polymer composite obtained by polymerization of a liquid crystal composition containing a liquid crystal compound, a chiral agent, a monofunctional polymerizable monomer and a polyfunctional polymerizable monomer, wherein a combination of the liquid crystal compound and the chiral agent exhibits a dielectric constant anisotropy ( ϵ) of ≥30 and a refractive index anisotropy ( n) of ≥0.13 and wherein the liquid crystal compound/chiral agent combination of the composite exhibits a blue phase. |
