An exhaust gas purifying device using a honeycomb structure body used as a filter for collecting particulates in an exhaust gas discharged from an internal combustion engine such as a diesel engine or used as a carrier of a catalyst for purifying the exhaust gas. The honeycomb structure body is constructed by using a composite material formed from ceramic particles and crystalline silicon. Particulates etc. collected by the honeycomb structure body are burnt in the temperature range of 250 to 800°C and removed. Accordingly, even when there is distribution of relatively low temperatures or when long term cold cycles are repeated, thermal stress is restricted from accumulating and cracks are prevented from occurring, resulting in improvement of thermal shock resistance. |
