abstract Disclosed is a method for inhibiting neuronal cell death. The method includes contacting a neuronal cell with a bicyclic hexahydroaporphine. Also disclosed are methods for treating or preventing a neurodegenerative condition in a subject. The method includes administering a bicyclic hexahydroaporphine to the subject. Pharmaceutical compositions that include a bicyclic hexahydroaporphine and one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients, at least one of which one or more pharmaceutically acceptable excipients is not an ophthalmologically acceptable excipient, are also described.
