abstract |
A process for contact lens production in which a hydroxylated compound having low copolymerizability can be copolymerized with a silicon compound in a reaction atmosphere causing no polymerization inhibition and a lens material satisfactory in transparency and strength, which are essential properties required of optical materials, is obtained; and a contact lens or ocular lens material obtained by the process. The process for producing a soft ocular lens material comprises: (1) a step in which a hydroxylated polymerizable compound is mixed with a trialkylamine to obtain a mixture solution; and (2) a step in which a polymerizable silicon compound is added to the mixture solution obtained in the step (1) and the resultant mixture is subjected to a polymerization reaction to thereby obtain a polymer. |
