Electrodialysis method and apparatus for trace metal analysis |
abstract |
The present invention provides an electrodialysis method and apparatus for treating a sample including trace metals in a matrix. Advantageously, the present invention allows for highly accurate detection of trace contaminants in a solution sample, in particular trace metals. It involves flowing a carrier solution with a metal-complexing reagent, through a carrier solution channel (303), separated from a sample channel (305) by a membrane (304). The metal -complexing reagent is diffused through the membrane (304) into the sample channel (305) and forms a metal complex between the metal-complexing reagent and trace metals in the solution sample. The trace metals are thereby stabilized in solution and can be subsequently detected. |
