abstract Novel heat generating compositions, which are suitable for topical application to the skin of a subject are provided. More particularly, topically applied anhydrous or substantially anhydrous compositions containing at least one inorganic or organic salt, which has a positive heat of solution that, upon contact with water, produce a warming effect on the skin of the subject are provided. Also provided is a method of making novel heat generating composition, which includes a method of controlling the change in temperature of the heat generating composition.
