abstract A fixed bed containing a catalyst or sorbent having at least one region of reduced permeability is described. The reduced permeability may be achieved for example by the use of smaller sized particles in the desired region. The regions improve the efficiency of the bed by preventing bypass of, e.g. ammonia through a bed of particulate ammonia oxidation catalyst.
