[PROBLEMS] To provide novel cyanine compounds having thermal behavior more favorable for optical recording; and optical recording materials and optical recording media, containing the same. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] Cyanine compounds represented by the general formula (Ι): wherein A and B are each an optionally substituted benzene or naphthalene ring; all of R1 to R4 are each benzyl, or adjacent two of R1 to R4 (i.e., R1 and R2, or R3 and R4) are each benzyl and the other groups are each C1-4 alkyl or are united to form a 3- to 6-membered ring; Y1 and Y2 are each independently an organic group having 1 to 30 carbon atoms; Anm- is an m-valent anion; m is an integer of 1 or 2; and p is a coefficient keeping the electric charge neutral. |
