Estoliding method using dielectric heating |
abstract |
The present invention relates to an estoliding method using dielectric heating (microwaves and high frequencies). Estoliding involves polycondensation between a hydroxyacid hydroxyl group and/or derivatives thereof and a carboxylic acid carboxyl group and/or derivatives thereof. The reagents are exposed to electromagnetic waves in frequency ranges between around 300 GHz and 3 MHz. The reagents are natural or synthetic and used alone or in a mixture. The estolides are used, e.g., as softeners and moisturisers in cosmetics, and are also valuable synthetic intermediates in esterification or transesterification reactions. Said estolides have remarkable properties of interest to lubricant manufacturers: biodegradability, oxidative stability, low temperature behaviour (pour point, cloud point) and wear resistance. The invention enables such compounds to be achieved far more quickly. |
