The invention provides a heat-fusible road marking material which has a low melt viscosity and is excellent in fluidity at relatively low temperatures, color tone, and heat stability of hue; an acid-modified petroleum resin suitable for the road marking material; and a process for the production of the resin. An acid-modified petroleum resin obtained by introducing carboxyl or acid anhydride groups resulting from an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid having at most 8 carbon atoms or an anhydride thereof to a petroleum resin mainly comprising units derived from olefinic unsaturated hydrocarbon monomers of 4 to 6 carbon atoms, which has a melt hue of Gardner color number of 4 or below, a softening point of 60 to 130°C, and an acid value of 0.5 mgKOH/g or above; and a heat-fusible road marking material comprising the acid-modified petroleum resin, a color pigment, and a filler. |
