abstract | Modified ring-bearing resins characterized by being represented by the general formula (1): R1[-(-O-CO-NH-R2-NH-CO-O-R3-)p-O-R4]q ... (1) (wherein R1 is a residue derived from a resin having benzene rings and/or fused rings and hydroxyl groups by removing the hydroxyl groups; -R2- is a group derived from an organic diisocyanate by removing the isocyanate groups; -R3- is a residue derived from a polyol having a number-average molecular weight of 200 to 30000 by removing the hydroxyl groups; p is 1 to 3; -R4- is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 18 carbon atoms, or phenyl; and q is the number of hydroxyl groups removed from the resin); and dispersants comprising the modified ring-bearing resins, which are useful in the preparation of coating materials and dispersions where pigments or fine particles are uniformly dispersed. |
