abstract A novel anti-Leishmania agent whose side effect is trivial, which agent exhibits high cytostatic activity to Leishmania protozoa and can be easily produced and can be supplied at low cost. Use is made of a compound composed of a heterocycle containing a conjugate system and a nitrogen atom and a heterocycle containing a nitrogen atom and a sulfur atom, the heterocycles bonded together through a carbon chain containing an ethylene group. In particular, a compound composed of a specified 5 to 8-membered heterocycle and a specified 5 to 8-membered heterocycle having a conjugate system, the heterocycles bonded together through a vinylene group, more particularly a specified rhodacyanine dye compound, is used as an active ingredient of the anti-Leishmania agent.
