A novel gene capable of imparting salt stress resistance to a plant for a prolonged period of time; and a salt stress resistant transgenic plant having the gene incorporated therein. In particular, a gene coding for any of proteins described in items (a), (b) and (c) below; and a salt stress resistant transgenic plant having the gene incorporated therein. (a) protein with amino acid sequence shown in Sequence ID No. 2 of the sequence listing; (b) protein with amino acid sequence shown in Sequence ID No. 2 of the sequence listing, the amino acid sequence at one or some amino acids having deletion, substitution or addition, which protein has activity of imparting salt stress resistance to a plant; and (c) protein with amino acid sequence shown in Sequence ID No. 2 of the sequence listing, the amino acid sequence at one or some amino acids having deletion, substitution or addition, which protein has UDP glucose 4-epimerase activity. |
