abstract A novel benzene derivative having a moiety of a long linear conjugated structure, characterized in that it is represented by the following general formula (1): a method for preparing the benzene derivative; and a liquid crystalline material comprising the benzene derivative. The benzene derivative is expected, in an electric charge transporting method utilizing the molecular orientation in a liquid crystalline state, to exhibit excellent charge transporting property even without the excitation with a light.
