abstract A simple circuit is used to make a measuring apparatus that detects a change in frequency of a piezoelectric vibrator. A phase comparator (22), a loop filter (24) and a voltage-controlled oscillator (26) are used to constitute a phase synchronization circuit (20) as the circuit of the measuring apparatus. An oscillator circuit (10) for a mass-measuring piezoelectric vibrator (12) is connected to the phase comparator (22). An output terminal (30) is provided at the stage following the loop filter (24). In a measuring method for measuring the mass from a change in oscillation frequency of the mass-measuring piezoelectric vibrator (12), an input signal from the piezoelectric vibrator (12) is inputted to the phase comparator (22) of the phase synchronization circuit (20), and the oscillation frequency of the piezoelectric vibrator (12) is determined based on an output of the loop filter (24) of the phase synchronization circuit (20).
