abstract |
A novel gene having a function of enhancing acetic acid fermentation at a practically usable level is cloned from a practically usable acetic acid bacterium belonging to the genus Gluconoacetobacter by a method whereby a gene having a growth-promoting function in an acetic acid-containing medium is obtained from a chromosomal DNA library of acetic acid bacteria. When cultured in the presence of ethanol, a transformant constructed by transferring this gene into an acetic acid bacterium shows an extremely shortened growth induction time and thus the acetic acid fermentation speed can be remarkably elevated. |
