abstract Disclosed is a controlled release formulation of tamsulosin or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, which is advantageous in terms of simple preparation, and accurately controllable initial release profiles by adjusting a coating amount upon granulating and coating the formulation. The controlled release formulation includes tamsulosin or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof as an effective ingredient, and a dissolution controlling agent of the tamsulosin component having an acrylate polymer or copolymer and a poloxamer. In addition, the controlled release formulation includes a first release controlling system having tamsulosin or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and a first dissolution controlling agent having an acrylate polymer or copolymer and a poloxamer, and a second release controlling system having the first release controlling system coated with a coating agent containing at least a second dissolution controlling agent. A method of preparing such a controlled release formulation is also provided.
