A bicycle wheel (10) includes a tire engaging portion (34) located at the outward perimeter of the wheel (10), an inner portion (26) located radially inward from the tire engaging portion (34). A pair of air engaging side surfaces (20, 22) extend radially between the inner portion (26) and the tire engaging portion (34) forming the sides of the wheel (10). The air engaging side surfaces (20, 22) contain a plurality of surface features (44) designed to create a turbulent boundary layer when the wheel travels through air to reduce aerodynamic drag on the wheel (10). |
