abstract A process for producing a conductive polymer excellent in the degree of expansion/contraction per oxidation/reduction cycle. The process is for producing by the electrolytic polymerization method a conductive polymer having the property of expanding/contracting upon electrochemical oxidation/reduction. The electrolytic polymerization method is a polymerization method in which an electrolytic solution containing an organic compound as a solvent is used. The organic compound contains in the molecule (1) at least one kind of chemical bond selected from the group of an ether bond, ester bond, carbon-halogen bond, and carbonate bond and/or (2) at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, nitro, sulfo, and nitrile groups. The electrolytic solution contains trifluoromethanesulfonate ions and/or anions comprising a central atom and two or more fluorine atoms bonded thereto.
