The invention is to a polymer-ceramic, solid composite electrolyte (10) used in batteries. The electrolyte includes a silicate condensate framework and an electrolytic polymer material within the framework. A charge-carrying species is formed within the polymeric material. The polymeric material has an outer surface (18), an interior bulk portion (14) that is not cross-linked, and a skin portion (12) of cross-linked polymers at or near the outside surface of the electrolyte. |
