abstract A system, method and apparatus are provided for applying templates to find deposits of oil and natural gas. A personal computer is used to perform calculations on known data to generate hyperdimensional templates (530) that are stored within a pattern database (610). The hyperdimensional templates are generated in a layered series of cutting, attributing, and statisizing phases using data known to represent existing oil and gas reservoirs. The hyperdimensional templates are stored in a pattern database (360). The templates are used in comparison to target data sets in order to detect patterns that are consistent with reserves of oil and/or natural gas.
