abstract A method and apparatus for sensing a flammable vapor are described herein. Initially,na first thermal conductivity of a vapor at a first temperature (202) and a secondnthermal conductivity of the vapor at a second temperature (202) can be determinedn(202). Thereafter, a ratio of the first thermal conductivity signal to that ofnthe second thermal conductivity can be calculated (204) to obtain a primary "vapor"nsignal. The "vapor" ratio can then be compared (206) to an "air"nratio (206) of air without the vapor at the first temperature (202) and the secondntemperature (202) to obtain (208) a secondary signal (210) thereof. Such a secondarynsignal can then be compared (212) to an alarm set-point value (212) to therebyndetermine whether the vapor comprises a flammable vapor and a risk-reducingnaction thereof be taken.
