titleOfInvention Biosolids-based food additive and food material for animal food and methods of production and use thereof
abstract This invention involves a composition for feeding animals, where the composition is produced in a wastewater treatment operation. Waterborne organic materials in the wastewater stream are metabolized by microorganisms resulting in the formation of a biosolids mass comprised of microorganisms. This biosolids mass is then used as a food source for animals. This food material may be further supplemented by adding other components to enhance its nutritional qualities. The wastewater stream containing the waterborne organic materials may be part of, for example, a food processing plant or a microbiologically-based pharmaceutical product manufacturing facility. The invention includes a food material for animals as well as methods of producing this food material and of feeding animals with this food material. The invention further includes the feeding of an organic fertilizer or an organic soil amendment to animals.
