titleOfInvention METHOD FOR DESULFURIZING FLUE GAS AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING NITROGEN OXIDES
abstract The invention relates to an apparatus (10) and method for removing acid gases and nitrogen oxides from flue gas produced by industrial plants and power plants. Said method and said apparatus (10) make it possible to convert nitrogen oxides, and in particular nitric oxide, into nitrogen dioxide which then reacts to form a valuable by-product. This method generally involves contacting a flue gas with a cleaning medium (14) so as to absorb acid gases from the flue gas and produce an intermediate flue gas. This intermediate flue gas is then cooled to cause oxidation of the nitric oxide present to form nitrogen dioxide which is then absorbed from the flue gas to produce a solution containing nitrogen dioxide (36) and a purified flue gas. Said nitrogen dioxide in the solution containing nitrogen dioxide (36) then reacts with ammonium hydroxide to form ammonium nitrate as a valuable by-product.
