abstract A method of wastewater treatment which comprises adding a calcium compound to wastewater containing fluoride ions and/or phosphate ions and then adding a membrane former and a complexing agent to the resulting wastewater. The membrane former is composed of a water-soluble organic polyelectrolyte comprising constituent units derived from at least one organic acid selected from the group consisting of mannuronic acid, glucuronic acid and cellulose glycolate and an anionic polymer flocculant, and the complexing agent is a cationic polymer flocculant alone or is composed of a water-soluble aluminum salt and a cationic polymer flocculant. This method can be carried out by use of low-cost equipment and can surely clear the severe effluent standards for fluoride ions and/or phosphate ions.
