abstract |
A pharmaceutical combination consisting of an effective amount of artesunate and mefloquine and a method of treating malaria is described. The combination of artesunate and mefloquine is very well tolerated if used in a 3-day course of malaria treatment, wherein the dosage of artesunate and mefloquine is each day the same, and it is preferably administered once a day simultaneously. The combination can conveniently be pre-packed in a single blister pack divided into 3 daily units, and the daily units preferably distinguished by different colours. The combination is effectively used especially in the treatment of Plasmodium falciparum malaria, even if resistant to other antimalarial drugs, or malaria caused by mixed malaria parasites. |
