abstract Instruments and methods for performing non-invasive measurements of analyte concentrations and for monitoring and regulating tissue status, such as tissue glucose levels. The instrument includes a radiation source (14) capable of directing radiation to a portion of the surface of the skin of a patient. The instrument further includes a radiation detector (18) positioned to receive radiation emitted from an excited target and a processing circuit (22) operatively connected to the detector to translate a level of emitted radiation into a measurable signal that is representative of blood glucose level.
