The invention relates to the use of a cross-linked polymer comprising hydrophilic groups, said polymer being combined with a liquid to form an open-cell sponge structure, for removing or reducing malodorous substances in the air. In a preferred form of embodiment, active agents are introduced into the spongy mass, and are slowly and constantly released into the air, reacting with the malodorous substances and thus reducing or removing the same or masking the smell thereof. |
