An expandable stent for implantation in a body lumen, such as coronary artery, consists of radially expandable cylindrical rings generally aligned on a common axis and disposed around a polymeric tube. The polymeric tube provides longitudinal and flexural flexibility to facilitate delivery through tortuous body lumens and the rings provide the necessary radial strength to maintain the patency of a vessel and to resist collapse. |
