abstract |
Trimethylol propane is isolated from a reaction mixture, obtained by reaction of n-butyraldehyde with formaldehyde in the presence of a base and optional hydrogenation of the mixture obtained. The mixture is distilled using a partition column or a distillation column with a pre-column or a distillation column with a post-column. The method is characterised by a low investment and energy cost and the reduced formation of high-boiling by-products. |
