A method and device for raising marine animals, especially crustaceans such as crabs (27). The method involves isolation of berried females (27) and rapid removal of the female (27) after hatching. Larvae (32) are transferred to a larval hatch tank (30) where water conditions and diet are controlled. After metamorphosis, juveniles are transferred to a pond (34) and raised for a preferred period. The pond (34) may include a settlement substrate formed from soaked straw. The device for performing this metod also includes a tank (28, 33) with a conically inwardly sloping bottom region and cylindrical top region. The larval hatch tank (33) is part of a two tank system with a sump tank (37) connected in a water recirculation system and including filters and heaters. |
