A flue gas desulfurization apparatus, characterized in that an active carbon fiber layer (20) in a catalyst layer (6) comprises flat plate type active carbon fiber sheets and corrugated plate type active carbon fiber sheets which are laminated alternately and are arranged so that the passage for a fluid extends in the vertical direction, and the water for use in the formation of sulfuric acid is supplied to the active carbon fiber layer (20) in the catalyst layer (6) by utilizing capillary osmosis action, to thereby add a minimum amount of water for removing sulfur oxides (SOx) uniformly to the active carbon fiber layer (20). The flue gas desulfurization apparatus allows the reduction of the amount of water required for removing sulfur oxides (SOx). |
